14-Year-Old Among Three Arrested After Fatal Stabbing In Chelmsford’s Central Park

Three teenagers, including a 14-year-old boy, have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 21-year-old man was fatally attacked in Central Park in Chelmsford.

Essex Police were called to the park at about 19:00 BST on Friday. Officers found the 21-year-old with critical injuries; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The force confirmed the death followed an assault, and the BBC understands the victim was stabbed.

A 14-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man — all from Chelmsford — have been arrested and remain in police custody while inquiries continue.

Chelmsford Central Parkrun announced on social media that Saturday’s event had been cancelled "on police advice." An Essex and Herts Air Ambulance helicopter was also seen at the scene before departing.

Det Insp Lydia George said: "This is a deeply distressing incident. A family is grieving, and our thoughts remain firmly with them at this incredibly difficult time.

"We are determined to get them answers and build as clear a picture as possible of the circumstances surrounding what has happened. We can confirm that we are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident, and there is no ongoing risk to the public."

"This took place in a busy public area, and while we have already received valuable assistance from the public, we continue to appeal for information. Even the smallest detail could prove crucial."

Essex Police said officers would remain in the Chelmsford area over the coming days as enquiries continue. Anyone with information, or anyone who was in Central Park around the time of the incident, is asked to contact police.
