Fireworks-Laden Truck Erupts in Spectacular Blaze on I-75 Near Ooltewah — No Injuries Reported

Firefighters in Tennessee responded to what looked like an early Independence Day display after a truck hauling fireworks ignited on Interstate 75 near Ooltewah. The blaze spread to the trailer’s cargo, and the fireworks began detonating and launching sparks and rockets into the air.

Video captured from an overpass shows a vast plume of sparks and projectiles pouring from the trailer as onlookers watched in disbelief. The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department said the trailer "was full of fireworks, all of which became involved in the fire and exploded during the incident."

“The devices were going off in different directions, endangering drivers,” the department noted in a Facebook video, while also confirming that no injuries were reported.

Traffic on I-75 was temporarily halted while first responders worked to secure the scene and extinguish the blaze. Authorities have not yet released details about the truck’s destination or the cause of the fire.

Context

The report referenced other unusual cargo incidents, including a March spill of about 40,000 lbs of extra-firm tofu in Missouri and a prior crash in which a truck carrying a large shipment of ribeye steaks caught fire. Such incidents underscore the risks associated with transporting large, unconventional loads on major highways.
