A 23-year-old woman from the Bronx, identified by police as Diana Smith, was arrested on hate-crime charges after an incident on a New York City subway last weekend that was captured on video by the victim, the NYPD told Fox News Digital.
What the video shows: The footage, recorded by the 23-year-old victim, appears to show Smith shouting antisemitic slurs on a crowded train, including the statements, "Jews are eating kids!" and "You're a Jew. I can smell the kids." The recording then appears to capture a physical assault in which Smith allegedly struck, kicked and choked the victim, threw her to the floor and pulled out some of her hair as other riders reacted.
The video was circulated on social media by the Combat Antisemitism Movement and helped draw public attention to the attack.
Arrest and Charges
Smith was taken into custody following the incident. Authorities charged her with hate-crime assault, hate-crime criminal obstruction of breathing and hate-crime aggravated harassment, according to the NYPD.
Victim Condition and Additional Details
The victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition and, according to a report in the Jerusalem Post, suffered minor injuries. The Post also quoted the victim saying that before the assault Smith had been asking other passengers whether they were Jewish and repeatedly promoted the antisemitic trope that Jews are stealing wealth.
