President Trump shared two AI-generated images on Truth Social showing a proposed "DronePort" atop a planned White House East Wing ballroom. The images arrived as the White House seeks roughly $1 billion in security upgrades — reportedly including a concealed counteroffensive drone port, rocket launchers, bulletproof glass and a hardened bunker. The funding request has stalled after the Senate parliamentarian blocked its insertion into another bill, drawing criticism from Democrats and prompting Trump to attack a federal judge who paused above-ground work.

President Donald Trump posted two AI-generated images on Truth Social over the weekend depicting a proposed 'DronePort' on the roof of a planned White House East Wing ballroom.

One image shows concentric rows of black military drones arrayed on the rooftop, surrounded by soldiers in tactical gear, with fireworks exploding behind the Washington Monument. The second mockup depicts a sunset scene with attack drones, fuel trucks and a squad of troops on the roof, and the Washington Monument shown under construction; both visuals carry a stamp resembling the White House seal.

Images And Message

Alongside the images, Trump wrote that "The DronePort at the White House Ballroom will be, perhaps, the most sophisticated anywhere in the World!" and added that it "will safeguard our Nation's Capital, Washington, D.C., long into the future." The images are AI-generated mockups and were shared on the former president's Truth Social platform.

Funding Fight On Capitol Hill

The visuals come amid a broader fight over an approximately $1 billion White House request tied to security upgrades for the East Wing ballroom. Wired reported that the proposal would include a roof designed to conceal a "counteroffensive drone port and rocket launchers," bulletproof glass and a hardened underground bunker.

While donors including Apple, Meta and Amazon are paying for the ballroom's construction, some White House officials told reporters they are uncomfortable with private companies effectively underwriting what could become a fortified presidential facility.

Political Pushback And Procedure

The funding push has stalled in Congress. Senate Republicans attempted to add the $1 billion request to a larger immigration-enforcement bill, but Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled that move impermissible. Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana told reporters the core problem was simple: "the votes aren't there, plainly and simply." Trump then called for MacDonough to be removed from her post.

In April, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon — a George W. Bush appointee — ordered that above-ground work on the ballroom be halted unless Congress explicitly authorized it. In his Truth Social post, Trump criticized Judge Leon, saying he "should stop playing games with America's Security" and warning that if Washington were attacked the judge "will be held responsible for the Death and Destruction caused to our Country."

Democratic Criticism

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has seized on the funding request to criticize priorities, writing that at a time when many Americans struggle financially, Republicans were proposing a billion-dollar security package tied to a ballroom. Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland also challenged Trump's claim that no taxpayer dollars were involved, posting that "$1 billion is a lot more than one penny."

The debate highlights tensions around donor-funded projects at the White House, how security upgrades are financed and procedural barriers in Congress for approving high-cost additions to presidential facilities. The AI-generated images have amplified public attention and sharpened partisan disagreements over the request.
