Phoenix, an eight-year-old travelling with his father James Rose, helped calm a disruptive passenger aboard a Jet2 flight from Turkey to Salford on May 1. After the woman became agitated roughly 30 minutes after takeoff, Phoenix sang to her and showed his football cards, keeping her calm for the rest of the journey. The pilot thanked the pair, and Jet2 is sending a goodie pack and vouchers for two free flights. Strangers from the U.K., Germany and the Netherlands have since sent gifts to Phoenix, including a PlayStation 5.
8-Year-Old Calms Disruptive Passenger, Preventing Mid-Flight Diversion on Jet2 Flight

An eight-year-old boy has been widely praised after calming a disruptive passenger on a Jet2 flight from Turkey to England, helping to prevent the aircraft from being diverted.
The incident occurred on Friday, May 1, on a service returning to Salford. The flight was delayed by about an hour before departure while staff waited for late passengers. Roughly 30 minutes after takeoff, a female passenger was reported to have been drinking her own alcohol and became verbally and physically agitated toward other passengers and crew.
James Rose, who was travelling with his son Phoenix, volunteered to help. The woman was moved to sit between father and son, and after James began talking with her, Phoenix stepped in. According to reports, the eight-year-old calmed the woman by singing to her and showing her his football cards. His gentle approach — quietly redirecting her, asking about her children and tapping her when she became agitated — reportedly kept the situation under control for the remainder of the flight.
"The way he handled the situation, he calmed her down. He was absolutely fantastic, he took over," James Rose told the Manchester Evening News. "He was saying to her, 'Don't shout, don't swear... what do your kids do?' Every time she tried to go off he would tap her and say, 'Come on, talk to me.'"
Because the passenger remained calm, the pilot did not need to divert the aircraft. The captain personally thanked James and Phoenix and shook their hands. Jet2 said it would recognise the pair with a goodie pack and a voucher for a pair of free flights in appreciation of their actions.
After the story became public, Phoenix received numerous gifts from people across the U.K., Germany and the Netherlands. James Rose said deliveries included thank-you cards and even a PlayStation 5 — items that made the day feel like "Christmas" for his son.
In a statement to PEOPLE, a Jet2 spokesperson said: "The vast majority of customers have a brilliant experience when they fly with us, however our highly-trained crew are always there to look after everyone, as well as provide our friendly in-flight service. We have heard about how James and Phoenix reassured a fellow customer and we would like to congratulate and thank them for their kindness and care. We are arranging for a goodie pack to be sent to them, alongside a voucher for a pair of free flights, in recognition of what they did."
The episode has been widely shared as an example of calm, human intervention in a potentially serious inflight disruption.
