Russian strikes on Tuesday killed at least 22 people across Ukraine, with 12 fatalities in Zaporizhzhia in one of the most severe single attacks this year. Kyiv has proposed an open-ended ceasefire to begin at midnight and urged Moscow to reciprocate, rejecting a one-day pause for Russia's Victory Day parade. Additional strikes hit Kramatorsk and gas facilities in Poltava, while Russian media reported two deaths in Chuvashia from a Ukrainian drone.
Russian Strikes Kill 22 As Kyiv Proposes Open-Ended Ceasefire Ahead Of Victory Day

Russian strikes across Ukraine on Tuesday killed at least 22 people, including 12 in what officials described as one of the worst single attacks so far this year, as Kyiv prepared to submit a proposal for an open-ended ceasefire to begin at midnight.
Zaporizhzhia: Emergency services said at least 12 people died in the city of Zaporizhzhia, with regional governor Ivan Fedorov reporting at least 16 more injured. Residential buildings, a car repair shop and a car wash were damaged, and fires broke out at a retail outlet and an unidentified enterprise. Officials shared images showing a heavily damaged, burning building and first responders assisting bloodied victims at the scene.
Kramatorsk and Poltava: President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported that three aerial bombs struck the eastern frontline city of Kramatorsk, killing five people and injuring five others, with the toll potentially rising. Ukrainian officials also said an overnight Russian strike on gas production facilities in the Poltava region killed five people.
Cross-Border Incident: Russian state media reported that a Ukrainian drone strike killed two people in Russia's Chuvashia region on Tuesday.
Ceasefire Proposals: Moscow announced a temporary ceasefire for May 8-9 to coincide with its Victory Day commemorations and military parade marking the Soviet-era defeat of Nazi Germany. Ukraine responded by offering an open-ended ceasefire beginning at midnight on Wednesday and urged Russia to reciprocate. President Zelenskiy said it was unacceptable for Russia to pause strikes for a single parade day while continuing heavy attacks on Ukrainian territory.
Context: The incidents underscore continued violence across multiple fronts even as diplomatic signals and proposals for pauses in fighting are exchanged. Casualty counts may change as investigations and rescue operations continue.
