CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Authorities say U.S. Marshals arrested a 32-year-old Honduran migrant aboard a Greyhound bus in Rosenberg, Texas, after prosecutors tied him to a violent sexual assault behind a dumpster outside a Long Island restaurant.
Details Of The Alleged Attack
Prosecutors say the incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on March 27 outside the Esperanza Deli Cafe in Amityville. According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, the unnamed male victim was heavily intoxicated and had collapsed inside the deli before the encounter.
Surveillance footage, prosecutors allege, shows Jose Ignacio Bonilla Garcia drag the unconscious man behind a dumpster and sexually assault him. The victim reportedly regained consciousness during the assault and, prosecutors say, Bonilla Garcia then struck him again with his fists and with a wooden plank, leaving the man "bloodied and battered" in the parking lot.
A delivery driver discovered the injured man several hours later and called 911.

Arrest, Charges And Next Steps
By the time investigators identified Bonilla Garcia as a suspect, prosecutors say he had fled New York by bus. U.S. Marshals located and arrested him in Rosenberg, Texas, where he was allegedly traveling toward the southern border.
Bonilla Garcia was extradited from Fort Bend County, Texas, to New York and arraigned on Monday. He is being held without bail on two counts of first-degree rape and one count of felony assault and is due back in court on May 28. If convicted on the most serious charges, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
"Accountability for perpetrators of sexual violence is not just a legal obligation, but also a moral one," Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said. "My office will do everything in its power to ensure that those who commit such heinous acts are held accountable... to protect others and to send a clear message that these crimes will not be tolerated in Suffolk County."
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has filed a detainer seeking deportation of Bonilla Garcia after the criminal case concludes. Media representatives say they reached out to ICE for comment.
