Six companies that list Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York, as sole director have applied to be struck off the UK’s Companies House register following a new tranche of documents released by the US Department of Justice related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Background
The Department of Justice published additional files on January 30 that renewed scrutiny of Ferguson and her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, because of their past ties to Epstein. Public filings at Companies House show Ferguson as the only director on all six entities; each submitted applications in mid-February to be removed from the register.
What the Documents Show
The newly released materials include communications and records that suggest Ferguson maintained contact with Epstein after his 2009 prison sentence. The files indicate she visited him in Miami five days after his release, after he served 13 months of an 18-month sentence for soliciting prostitution from a minor. They also contain affectionate messages from 2009–2010.
In January 2010, Ferguson wrote: "You are a legend. I really don’t have the words to describe, my love, gratitude for your generosity and kindness. Xx I am at your service. Just marry me."
In August 2009, she described Epstein as "the brother I have always wished for."
Companies and Charity Affected
Company filings show S. Phoenix Events Limited applied to be struck off on February 13. Five other firms filed similar strike-off applications on February 16. The entities are:
- Philanthrepreneur Limited
- Fergie’s Farm Limited
- La Luna Investments Limited
- Solamoon Limited
- Planet Partners Productions Limited
- S. Phoenix Events Limited
Separately, Ferguson’s charitable foundation, Sarah’s Trust, said it would close "for the foreseeable future" after internal discussions, according to PA Media.
Legal and Reporting Notes
Under UK rules, Companies House may remove a business from the register only if it meets certain conditions, including not having traded in the previous three months. Being named in the DOJ documents does not, by itself, prove wrongdoing. CNN has contacted Ferguson's representatives for comment; Mountbatten-Windsor has previously denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.
