Dashcam from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office shows a stolen red SUV driven by 17-year-old Taylor Simpson fleeing deputies and reaching speeds above 115 mph before losing control and rolling over. Deputies said they nearly ended the pursuit because of the danger to the public. Simpson, who had been reported missing by Newnan police, was arrested at the scene with no major injuries and now faces multiple traffic and criminal charges.

Dashcam footage released by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office shows a stolen red SUV barreling through a Georgia neighborhood and flipping in a rollover crash after a high-speed pursuit that exceeded 115 mph.

What Happened

Deputies were alerted shortly before 2:45 p.m. Wednesday to a vehicle reported stolen out of Newnan, about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta. After hearing the description, Lt. Josh Akin and Deputy Sheriff Nelson began searching for the red SUV.

A teen driver allegedly reached more than 115 mph in a stolen SUV before a rollover crash. Dashcam video shows the dangerous high-speed chase along Georgia roads.

The dashcam captures the moment the SUV sped past the deputies near Antioch Road. Police say the driver refused to stop, then led officers on a dangerous flight — weaving into oncoming lanes and reaching speeds of more than 115 mph on narrow, winding roads.

Deputies said they were preparing to call off the pursuit because of the extreme risk to the public when the vehicle lost control and rolled over.

After the Crash

Video shows deputies surrounding the overturned SUV with weapons drawn, ordering the occupant to show his hands before taking him into custody. Authorities identified the driver as 17-year-old Taylor Simpson, who had been reported missing by the Newnan Police Department. Simpson was removed from the vehicle and, according to the sheriff’s office, did not suffer major injuries.
