Chicago police have released a new photo of Linda Brown, a 53-year-old special-education teacher who has been missing since Jan. 3. Authorities say Brown was last seen walking eastbound near 3500 South Lake Park Avenue in Chicago and may need immediate medical attention.

The newly issued image shows Brown wearing a black winter hat, a black coat, black pants and black rubber snow boots. Police described her as about 5 feet tall, weighing approximately 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

What Investigators and Family Have Said

Police believe Brown was driving a blue Honda Civic when she disappeared. Her husband, Antwon Brown, said the vehicle was later found undamaged near South Lake Park Avenue and East 35th Street. Surveillance footage from about 3 a.m. on Jan. 3 captured Brown walking across a pedestrian bridge toward the lakefront, but the video does not show her returning.

Antwon told reporters he last saw his wife around midnight going into Jan. 3. He also said she left home that night with her purse and credit cards but did not make it to a scheduled acupuncture appointment the next morning. Brown teaches at Robert Healy Elementary School in Bridgeport and had recently taken a leave of absence for mental-health treatment; she was due to return to work Jan. 5.

“She has a little mental issues going on, and she took a leave of absence from her job to get help for that,” Antwon said, noting that Brown had been experiencing worsening anxiety and panic attacks.
