Louisiana Mother Charged With First‑Degree Murder After Allegedly Shooting 1‑Year‑Old Daughter

A 28-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a 1-year-old child was fatally shot at a home in Sulphur, Louisiana, police said.
Officers from the Sulphur Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Quelqueshue Street on Jan. 1 at about 8:21 p.m. When they arrived, they discovered a child who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a department news release.
The suspect, identified by police as Kristen Bass, 28, was taken into custody the night of the incident and is being held on a $10 million bond, the release stated. Authorities have named the victim as 1‑year‑old Acelynn Moss.
Father Says Mother Made Disturbing Comments
The child’s father, Bradley Moss, told local station Fox 8 that he heard a loud noise on the evening of Jan. 1 and ran into a bedroom to find Acelynn shot and Bass allegedly holding a firearm. He said their 2-year-old daughter was also in the room and crying for help.
"I almost lost two babies," Bradley Moss told Fox 8. "I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God. [My older daughter] said, 'Help me, Daddy.' And Kristin said, 'I just sent our baby to God.'"
Moss also told the station he believed Bass implied she intended to harm the couple’s older child as well. These statements are part of public reporting and have not been independently verified by law enforcement in the department release.
