Katie Pavlich: Greenland Is 'Fair Compensation' For U.S. NATO Spending, Says NewsNation Anchor
Greenland is fair compensation to the US for NATO funding: Pavlich

Katie Pavlich told "CUOMO" that the United States deserves Greenland, arguing U.S. taxpayers have shouldered NATO defense costs for decades and that U.S. control would prevent the island from falling under Chinese or Russian influence. She framed acquisition as a form of compensation for long-term U.S. spending on NATO. The segment also noted a report about Venezuela potentially transferring oil, and Pavlich will launch a nightly show on NewsNation on Jan. 19 at 10 p.m. ET.

NewsNation anchor Katie Pavlich argued that the United States has earned the right to acquire Greenland, calling control of the strategically located, ice-covered territory "fair compensation" for what she described as disproportionate U.S. spending on NATO defense.

Pavlich made the remarks Tuesday on "CUOMO" while discussing reports that President Trump is reportedly considering the use of U.S. military power to secure the island, which is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. She framed Greenland as both a strategic asset and a potential prize for other global powers if the United States does not assert its interests.

“The United States (has) been paying for NATO overwhelmingly, for years and years and years, they have not paid their fair share… Did they think that that was a free ride, that we were never going to cash the check in on what we deserve and what we’ve been paying for?”
“It can be the United States of America, China, or Russia, who do you want it to be? Because you’re asking us to pay for the defense of Greenland, but you’re also not paying your fair share. So I see it as a compensation for the last many decades.”

Additional Context

The segment also referenced a separate report that Venezuela may transfer 30–50 million barrels of oil to the United States. Pavlich is scheduled to launch a nightly NewsNation program, "Katie Pavlich Tonight," beginning Jan. 19 at 10 p.m. ET.

The idea of acquiring Greenland has sparked debate: proponents cite strategic and security interests in the Arctic, while critics point to sovereignty, legal and diplomatic obstacles with Denmark and international law. Pavlich’s comments reflect broader public conversations about NATO burden-sharing and geopolitical competition in the Arctic region.
