Several activist networks condemned President Trump’s operation in Caracas that resulted in the detainment of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores. Fox News Digital reports that the Alliance For Global Justice (AFGJ), a former grantee of the Open Society Foundations, helped organize global protests urging demonstrations at U.S. embassies, military bases and other sites. Open Society records show a $250,000 grant to AFGJ in 2020, and AFGJ linked the administration’s foreign actions to domestic troop deployments. Maduro and Flores were transported to New York and charged in U.S. federal court; both have pleaded not guilty.
Soros-Backed Group Named Among Organizers of Global Pro-Maduro Protests After Maduro’s Capture, Report Says

Several activist networks quickly condemned President Donald Trump’s operation in Caracas that resulted in the detainment of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Among the groups organizing protests in response, Fox News Digital reports, was the Alliance For Global Justice (AFGJ), a nonprofit listed as a past grantee of the Open Society Foundations.
AFGJ Flyer Calls For Worldwide Demonstrations
A flyer circulated by AFGJ and affiliated groups under the banner "No War On Venezuela Coalition" urged a global program of demonstrations at U.S. embassies, military installations, city halls and other public sites to "defend Venezuelan sovereignty and right to resist." The flyer described the signatories as "anti-imperialist and anti-war organizations" and condemned what the organizers called "U.S. violent attacks on the rights of Venezuelans, and violations of Venezuela’s sovereignty."
"We, the undersigned anti-imperialist and anti-war organizations, condemn the U.S. violent attacks on the rights of Venezuelans, and violations of Venezuela’s sovereignty."
Calls For "Mass Resistance"
AFGJ and allied groups urged "mass resistance," encouraging activists to "take to the streets, organize rallies and teach-ins on your university campuses, mobilize in your unions to demonstrate solidarity and shut down the supply chains of imperialism, including resolutions, pickets and protests outside of arms factories and ports that are providing the weapons for this aggression." The coalition particularly encouraged those outside the U.S. to target U.S. embassies, military bases and diplomatic installations.
Funding Link To Open Society Foundations
Open Society Foundations’ online grant records show a $250,000 grant to AFGJ in 2020. The foundations’ description for the grant indicated it was intended "to catalyze Black communities into the global movement for climate justice." The Open Society Foundations network was founded by George Soros and is now led by Alex Soros.
AFGJ Draws Parallels With Domestic Deployments
In a public statement, AFGJ linked the administration's overseas actions to domestic deployments of National Guard or federal troops to U.S. cities, arguing the strategies of repression were connected. The statement asserted that people of color, immigrants and domestic dissenters are being treated as "internal enemies," and that international solidarity movements are targeted as part of a broader "hybrid war."
"The strategies of war and repression against Venezuela are united in a single strategy, not only toward other nations, but here at home. Memphis or Caracas — to the Pentagon, we’re all the same."
Legal Status Of Maduro And Flores
Following months of a visible U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean, the Trump administration authorized a strike on Caracas that led to the apprehension and transfer of Maduro and Flores to New York. U.S. prosecutors have since charged both in federal court with conspiracy to traffic large quantities of cocaine into the United States and related offenses, including narco-terrorism and weapons charges. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.
Responses And Sourcing
Fox News Digital reported the links between AFGJ and the protests and said it reached out to the White House, AFGJ and the Open Society Foundations for comment but did not immediately receive responses. This article summarizes those reports and attributes claims to the cited organizations and media reporting.
