Two-Year-Old Dies After Falling Into Garden Pond During Christmas Gathering; Family Launches GoFundMe

A two-year-old girl, identified by family as Isobel Wallace, died after falling into a garden pond during a family Christmas gathering on Dec. 25 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
What Happened
According to a GoFundMe page created by her aunt, Abigail Maxwell, Isobel wandered away from the family celebration and slipped into a pond in a nearby garden. The family said the pond had a temporary fence around it and was in a part of the garden the toddler would not normally have accessed alone; the family were staying at the house while their own home was undergoing renovations.
Family members performed CPR at the scene until emergency services arrived, and Isobel was taken to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save her, she "sadly couldn’t be saved," Maxwell wrote.
Tributes and Fundraiser
Maxwell described Isobel as "the happiest, smiliest, most adventurous and curious little girl." A GoFundMe has been launched to help parents Tamara and Aaron Wallace with funeral costs and to create a small memorial "fairy garden" in Isobel’s honor.
"Everyone who knows Isobel and us knows how gifted she was and that she lived more in her two years than some children did in a lifetime," Tamara wrote in a social media tribute posted Dec. 28. She thanked neighbours and the local community for their support and for showing "no judgement for the tragic accident."
The family has asked for privacy while they grieve and expressed gratitude for the messages of support they have received. The original report of the incident was first published by People.
