On the morning of Dec. 10, at about 8:30 a.m., a member of the public discovered a woman in the canal and emergency services were called. Officers cordoned off a section of the Bridgewater Canal so specialist police teams could carry out a search and recovery operation. Greater Manchester Police later confirmed the recovered body was that of the missing mother and have opened an investigation into her death; inquiries remain ongoing.
On Dec. 14, Bahvalova's sister launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses. The fundraiser remembered Jana as 'a devoted mother to her two daughters' who 'raised them on her own, always doing everything she could to provide a safe, loving and stable home.' It also notes she worked as a hotel cleaner and was remembered by relatives as hardworking, reliable and humble.
Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding her death. The family has asked for privacy while they make arrangements and grieve, and the fundraiser has been set up to assist with funeral costs.
