Pro‑Russian hackers say they carried out a DDoS attack that knocked La Poste's central systems offline, disrupting package tracking and online payments days before Christmas. French prosecutors say the group Noname057 claimed responsibility and the DGSI has taken over the investigation. The outage came during the busiest season for a service that handled 2.6 billion packages last year and is being seen in the context of broader alleged 'hybrid warfare' activity.
Pro‑Russian Hackers Claim DDoS Crippled La Poste Deliveries Days Before Christmas

A pro‑Russian hacking collective calling itself Noname057 has claimed responsibility for a major distributed denial‑of‑service (DDoS) attack that forced France's national postal service, La Poste, to suspend package deliveries and tracking services just days before Christmas, Paris prosecutors said Wednesday.
Investigation Underway
The Paris prosecutor's office said the group publicly announced the strike and that France's domestic intelligence agency, the DGSI, has taken over the investigation. Authorities are working with cybercrime units and international partners to identify the perpetrators and preserve digital evidence.
Attack Details
La Poste reported that core computer systems were knocked offline on Monday by a DDoS attack and that the outage had not been fully resolved by Wednesday morning. The disruption prevented postal staff from tracking parcels and also affected online payments at La Banque Postale, the postal group's banking arm.
Operational Impact
The attack struck during the busiest time of year: La Poste delivered 2.6 billion packages last year and employs more than 200,000 people. Officials called the outage a significant operational blow that risked delays for holiday shipments and undermined customer confidence.
Broader Context
Noname057 has been linked to other cyber incidents across Europe, including operations around a NATO summit in the Netherlands and intrusions into French government websites. Earlier this year the group was the focus of a major European police operation. French authorities and other European allies of Ukraine accuse Moscow of conducting a campaign of 'hybrid warfare' to sow division and erode support for Kyiv; The Associated Press has documented more than 145 hostile incidents — ranging from sabotage and cyberattacks to disinformation — that have strained police and intelligence resources.
Official Response: La Poste said it is working to restore services as quickly as possible and urged customers to follow official updates on its website and communications channels.
