Historic First: NMSU AFROTC Cadet Ethan French Commissions Into U.S. Space Force

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — New Mexico State University celebrated a milestone when Air Force ROTC cadet Ethan French became the first graduate from NMSU's AFROTC program to commission into the U.S. Space Force.
French accepted his commission as a Space Force officer the day before his graduation ceremony. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and is expected to begin his service assignments following commencement.
French's achievement continues a family connection to NMSU: his father also graduated from New Mexico State and served as an AFROTC cadet. University officials and community members praised the milestone as an example of expanding career pathways in space operations for new graduates.
