Man Extradited From Peru To Face Murder Charge After Wife Found Dead In Angeles National Forest

A man suspected of killing his wife was extradited from Peru to Los Angeles to face a murder charge after her body was found in Angeles National Forest. Authorities say 36-year-old Jossimar Cabrera arrived at LAX after turning himself in to Peruvian authorities. The victim, 33-year-old Sheylla Cabrera, was reported missing on Aug. 12 and found Aug. 16. The couple's three young sons were taken to Peru with the suspect and later repatriated to Los Angeles.

Los Angeles — A man suspected of killing his wife and leaving her body in a Southern California forest was returned to the United States from Peru to face a murder charge, Los Angeles authorities said.

Jossimar Cabrera, 36, arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday night after being held in Peru since late August. Peru's National Police said he turned himself in there. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office has filed a murder charge; it was not clear Sunday whether Cabrera had retained an attorney.

Discovery and Investigation

Authorities found the body of Sheylla Cabrera, 33, on Aug. 16 at the bottom of an embankment in Angeles National Forest, south of Lancaster, where the family lived. She had been reported missing four days earlier, on Aug. 12.

Homicide detectives reviewed surveillance footage that they say shows Jossimar Cabrera dragging a heavy object wrapped 'in a large piece of material' away from the family's apartment complex. When the victim's body was discovered, it was wrapped in similar material, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Children and Repatriation

The suspect left the United States for Peru with the couple's three young sons. On Aug. 16, Peru's Foreign Ministry said via social media that it had repatriated the children to Los Angeles to be reunited with the mother's family. The children had been reported missing shortly after Sheylla Cabrera was discovered dead.

The cause of Sheylla Cabrera's death has not been disclosed pending the completion of the investigation and any autopsy results. Authorities continue to investigate and have not released further details about the motive.

Note: The case remains active. Officials ask anyone with information to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
