Brian Kilmeade Urges Trump To Soften 'Affordability Hoax' Rhetoric Ahead Of Pennsylvania Tour

Brian Kilmeade told viewers on Fox & Friends that President Trump should soften his language when calling Democrats' affordability complaints a "hoax," because the phrasing can sound like he denies higher prices. Kilmeade said Trump acknowledges rising costs but disputes that his administration caused them and urged clearer explanations of inflation trends. He noted inflation has eased from a 2022 peak near 9% to roughly 3% in recent readings and challenged Democrats to offer clearer policy alternatives. The remarks came as Trump prepares an economy-focused tour in Pennsylvania.

Fox & Friends' Kilmeade Says Nuance Needed On 'Hoax' Messaging

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade on Friday suggested President Donald Trump adjust his rhetoric on affordability, arguing that repeatedly calling Democrats' concerns a "hoax" hands the opposition an easy talking point. Kilmeade made the remarks on Fox & Friends alongside cohosts Lawrence Jones and Ainsley Earhardt as they discussed Trump's announcement of an economy-focused tour in Pennsylvania next week.

Kilmeade said the shorthand of labeling Democrats' complaints a "hoax" can leave some listeners with the initial impression that the president is denying prices are higher. He clarified that Trump is acknowledging rising prices while contesting Democrats' framing that the White House caused the problem.

"The only thing I think that he could subtly change is when he says, 'all this is a hoax.' It makes some people on first blush say the president's not acknowledging that prices are higher. But what he is acknowledging is what he's doing about it," Kilmeade said.

Kilmeade advised clearer messaging so Democrats cannot easily counter with their own narrative — what he described as the Biden team portraying "Bidenomics" as a success and urging supporters to sell that version of events. He urged the administration to better explain current inflation trends instead of relying on dismissive labels.

"It's going up at a slower rate and it's gonna keep going down," Kilmeade said, urging the public be given more context about how inflation is moving.

Earhardt added that Democrats have not presented a fiscal plan that would avoid raising taxes in some areas, a point Kilmeade echoed while noting a broader absence of a clear alternative from the other side. He challenged Democrats to name specific policy priorities: "Can you please tell me a couple of things, anything, can you name two things Democrats are doing? If they had the power, what would you be doing?"

For context, U.S. inflation has moderated from its 2022 peak near 9% and is roughly around 3% year-over-year in recent readings, though exact figures vary by index and month. The hosts framed the exchange around messaging strategy as Trump prepares the Pennsylvania tour focused on the economy.
