Linda (81) and Gary (82) Lightfoot of Lubbock, Texas, were reported missing after failing to return home following Thanksgiving. A Silver Alert was issued on Nov. 30; Gary requires supplemental oxygen and neither person carries a cellphone. The couple was last seen leaving Panhandle in a silver 2024 Toyota Camry (plate TXLP TWN0925), and the vehicle was briefly spotted near Santa Rosa/San Jon, New Mexico. Authorities in Texas are searching for an elderly Lubbock couple who went missing after a Thanksgiving family gathering. Linda Lightfoot, 81, and her husband Gary Lightfoot, 82, were reported missing after they failed to return home following the holiday.

Family members alerted the Panhandle Police Department on Friday, Nov. 28, saying the couple left Panhandle at about 3 p.m. the previous day and never made it back to their home in Lubbock. Panhandle Police Chief Sace Hardman confirmed the family’s report to investigators.

The Carson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a Silver Alert on Sunday, Nov. 30. Officials say the disappearance is especially concerning because Gary Lightfoot is dependent on supplemental oxygen. Investigators also note that neither Linda nor Gary carry cellphones or other traceable electronic devices, which complicates the search.

Authorities believe the couple were traveling in a silver 2024 Toyota Camry with Texas license plate TXLP TWN0925. The vehicle was briefly located near Santa Rosa or San Jon, New Mexico, but could not be found after that sighting. Multiple agencies, including the Carson County Sheriff’s Office, Panhandle Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, New Mexico State Police, Quay County officials and the Texas Rangers, are involved in the search.

Search teams have used helicopters and drones while scouring areas where the vehicle was reportedly seen. Local officials continue to follow leads and coordinate resources across county and state lines.

  • Linda Lightfoot: approximately 5'3", about 128 lbs; last seen wearing a black-and-white blouse, a bulky silver necklace and dark pants.
  • Gary Lightfoot: approximately 5'9", about 197 lbs; last seen wearing a gray sweater and black sweatpants; oxygen dependent.
