Authorities in Lucas County, Ohio, are searching for Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu, a 71-year-old geriatrician who has been missing since late November after returning home from a hospital visit.

According to the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office report, Dr. Iwuagwu was last seen by his niece at his medical office at about 8:00 p.m. on Nov. 24. Surveillance footage captured him near his Holland residence in Springfield Township at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 25 in the Stone Oak neighborhood.

What officials say

A family member told responding deputies that Dr. Iwuagwu had been admitted to a local hospital earlier and was released on Nov. 24, after which he returned home. One of his daughters reported receiving location updates on her phone, but officers who checked the reported positions were unable to find him. The sheriff’s office says the investigation is active and ongoing.

Search efforts

Search teams have deployed K-9 units and drones and coordinated volunteer ground searches. Dozens of community members, including the doctor’s daughters, have joined organized searches across the Stone Oak area, but there have been no confirmed signs of him so far.

“At this point in time, we don't have a lot of answers. We just want to find him,” said Siti Dotson-Chambers, a volunteer search organizer.

Family members emphasized Dr. Iwuagwu’s ties to the community. “Our father is active in the community,” said his daughter Kanisha Byers-Smith. “He takes care of and loves his patients. To have a village show up for him means the world to us.”

Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu is described as approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white shirt with a blue shirt over it, according to family.
