A 20-year-old Georgia woman, Chloe Garcia, suffered a traumatic amputation when a car struck her while she was riding a bicycle with her boyfriend early on Oct. 30 in Alpharetta.

According to Garcia’s family, the collision occurred at about 6 a.m. on New McFarland Road when a black Mercedes‑AMG hit her. Emergency responders reportedly found her left leg completely severed at the scene. Garcia is currently in the intensive care unit at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital after two surgeries and is expected to undergo additional operations.

Family concerns and allegations: Relatives say Garcia lost so much blood that doctors called her survival a miracle. They also allege the driver who struck her was not cited or given a sobriety test, and that the family initially received only a basic incident report listing the driver’s name and the vehicle identification number. Garcia’s mother has said she learned key details about the vehicle only after hiring an attorney.

“She lost so much blood that doctors said it’s a miracle she’s even alive today,” Garcia’s sister Kiara Ross wrote on a fundraising page. “It feels like her life didn’t matter to the system meant to protect her.”

The family estimates medical bills have already topped $350,000 and says Garcia will need long-term care, prosthetics and therapy. They have launched a fundraiser to help cover expenses while pursuing legal accountability.

Local police confirm the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released full public details about the circumstances or whether any charges have been filed. The family continues to share updates as Garcia begins the long process of recovery and rehabilitation.
