Young fox rescued from Amazon delivery van engine after driver spots warning light

An Amazon delivery driver at a depot in Derby discovered a fox lodged inside his van's engine after an engine warning light came on. When he looked under the bonnet he found the animal hiding among the mechanical components.
RSPCA Inspector Herchy Boal was called to the site and carefully coaxed the fox into a safer position before extracting her from the engine compartment. Staff later found that the animal had chewed through some wiring, which had triggered the dashboard warning light.
The fox was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment of a wound on her tail and a small burn on a back leg. Her injuries are described as minor, and she is expected to make a full recovery.
Being trapped in a hot engine could have ended very differently for this young fox — but thankfully her injuries were minor and she is expected to make a full recovery. We do not know how long she had been inside the engine — she could have endured a long, frightening journey — so it was a relief to reach her in time.
Once the fox has fully recovered, Boal said she will be returned to the wild.
