Thai authorities warned of renewed heavy rain and thunderstorms that could trigger flash flooding across much of northern and upper Thailand from Monday through Wednesday, with very heavy showers expected later in central, eastern and southern regions including Bangkok. The floods that began in mid-September have killed 31 people and affected more than 3.5 million nationwide. Bangkok has seen major evacuations and transport disruptions, and the government has approved over 4.1 billion baht for recovery.
Thailand Braces for More Heavy Rain as Flood Death Toll Reaches 31

BANGKOK — Thai authorities warned Monday that renewed heavy rain and strong winds could bring additional flash flooding after nationwide floods since mid-September left 31 people dead and affected millions.
Weather Forecast and Flood Risk
The Thailand Meteorological Department said thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain are expected across much of northern and upper Thailand from Monday through Wednesday, increasing the chance of sudden, fast-moving flash floods in low-lying areas. Very heavy to heavy rainfall is also forecast in parts of the central, eastern and southern regions — including Bangkok — later in the week and over the coming weekend.
Impact and Local Conditions
Many districts of Bangkok were inundated last week after several days of torrential downpours, forcing thousands to evacuate and disrupting transport and essential services. Although conditions in the capital have improved in many areas, standing water remains in lower-lying neighborhoods and some communities continue to face hardship.
Government Response
City and national authorities have taken multiple measures to reduce the risk of renewed flooding, including draining additional water from Bangkok’s main canals to increase capacity and deploying extra pumps in high-risk zones. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that more than 3.5 million people nationwide remain affected by flooding. The 31 fatalities were recorded across eight provinces, including four in Bangkok.
Last week the Thai government approved emergency recovery funding of more than 4.1 billion baht (about $122 million) to support relief and reconstruction efforts.
Advice to Residents: People in vulnerable areas should monitor weather updates, follow instructions from local authorities, avoid driving through floodwater and move to higher ground if advised to evacuate.
