The lawsuit accuses Viewpoint School of dismissing early complaints about former teacher Travis Shojinaga, with parents and students reporting worrying behavior as early as December 2024. The filing says Shojinaga allegedly slipped his phone under a table while sitting with female students and made them uncomfortable. Prosecutors later charged him in February 2026 with one felony and four misdemeanors, alleging he secretly photographed at least four female students; he has pleaded not guilty and is free on $1 million bail.

A newly filed lawsuit alleges that Viewpoint School in Calabasas, California, ignored concerns about a former teacher’s behavior more than a year before his arrest. The complaint says parents and students raised alarm as early as December 2024, but school officials allegedly downplayed the reports.

Details Of The Allegations

The suit centers on 39-year-old Travis Shojinaga, who taught at Viewpoint School and was arrested in February 2026. According to reporting from The U.S. Sun and the New York Post, students and parents said Shojinaga made two female students uncomfortable by sitting with them at lunch and slipping his cellphone under the table.

"The children reported that Shojinaga had been sitting with them at lunch, placing his telephone beneath the table, and making them uncomfortable, and that the conduct was not limited," the lawsuit quotes.

The filing alleges that when a parent raised the matter with then-head of lower school Claudia Antoine, she responded that Shojinaga "bats for the other team," and that school officials characterized the concern as a possible "misunderstanding." The complaint also says some students felt uneasy enough to develop a discreet hand signal to warn each other when he was nearby.

Criminal Charges And Court Status

Los Angeles County prosecutors charged Shojinaga in February with one felony count of possession of child sexual abuse material and four misdemeanor counts of annoying or molesting a child under 18, according to official documents. Authorities allege he secretly photographed at least four female students. Shojinaga has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The U.S. Sun reported Shojinaga is free on $1 million bail and is subject to a protective order requiring him to stay away from the alleged victims and from Viewpoint School. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 11, 2026, according to court listings cited in media reports.
