Police in east Jerusalem's Silwan district have opened an investigation after a Jewish man reportedly fired warning shots into the air following an alleged stone-throwing incident targeting a group of young Jewish men.
Investigation Underway
Officials from the Israel Police's Jerusalem District said officers responded to reports of gunfire in Silwan on Sunday and launched extensive searches while investigating the circumstances. Preliminary inquiries indicate that local Arab residents allegedly hurled stones at a group of young Jewish men passing through the neighbourhood.
According to investigators, one of the young men fired into the air as a warning shot intended to disperse the suspected stone-throwers. Israel Police confirmed there were no injuries reported at the time of writing and said operational activity and broad searches are continuing to identify the suspects and gather further evidence.

Related Incidents in the West Bank
Separately, authorities reported two violent incidents in the West Bank in the run-up to Yom Kippur. In the area of Neveh Tzuf, north of Ramallah, a suspected shooting left a man in his 30s critically wounded; medics momentarily restored his pulse with CPR before he was airlifted to Rabin Medical Center–Beilinson Campus in Petah Tikva, where he later died of his wounds.
In another incident, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) said it shot dead one attacker and detained a second who allegedly attempted a car-ramming attack against soldiers in the Ganim area of the Menashe Brigade's sector. The IDF reported no soldiers were injured.
What We Know: The Silwan shooting is being treated as an active police investigation focusing on the circumstances that led to warning shots being fired. Authorities are prioritizing the identification of the alleged stone-throwers and the collection of corroborating evidence.
