Off-Duty IDF Soldier Detained and Suspended After Firing Toward Palestinians Near Al-Mughayyir

An off-duty Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier was detained by West Bank District Police and suspended by the military after firing toward Palestinians he said had thrown stones at him, Army Radio reported on Sunday, citing the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.

Incident Under Investigation

The soldier was taken in for questioning as authorities seek to clarify the circumstances of the shooting. The army said the soldier was suspended pending the outcome of the inquiry and that the case has been referred to the relevant investigative authorities while military commanders review possible disciplinary measures.

Context And Location

According to the IDF, troops were deployed to the Palestinian village of Al-Mughayyir several times on Saturday after reports of stone-throwing between villagers and Israeli civilians. Soldiers were reportedly pelted with stones upon arrival, and the off-duty soldier’s shooting allegedly occurred on the outskirts of Al-Mughayyir. The military added that no other IDF soldiers were present at the scene and that the incident caused no injuries.

The episode comes amid rising tensions across the West Bank. Security officials warned earlier on Sunday that Hamas may try to advance terror plots targeting Israeli soldiers and civilians, heightening concerns among both military and civilian authorities.
