Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) posted on X that he received an "A" grade from conservative advocacy group Moms For America, even as he faces public accusations of severe abuse from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno.
"Thank you @momsforamerica for this recognition," Miller wrote. "Supporting mothers, and the family unit as a whole, is supporting American values. That's why I joined @RepLuna in her efforts to allow proxy voting for new mothers in Congress."
What The Grade Means
It is not clear which specific votes or actions earned Miller the new "A" rating; Moms For America last graded his congressional record in 2023, awarding him a "B." Mediaite and other outlets say they have reached out to Moms For America for clarification.
Allegations And Investigation
Emily Moreno has publicly accused Miller of multiple violent acts, including pointing a gun at her head, throwing scalding water on her, pushing her into a wall, and physically harming the couple's then-two-year-old daughter. Medical staff at the Cleveland Clinic reported observing what they described as a possible "handprint bruise" on the child's shoulder during treatment for a broken collarbone; those staff referred the case to a child welfare agency, which notified police. That investigation did not result in criminal charges against Miller or any other person.
Reactions From Family And Colleagues
"I don't see this through the lens of politics. I see this through a lens of a dad who sees enormous pain in his daughter, who sees enormous pain in his wife," said Emily Moreno's father, Bernie Moreno, speaking to Politico. He added that he hopes Miller "gets the help he needs" and can become a better father.
Some Republican lawmakers, including members of Miller's own party, have publicly called for him to resign. Others, such as Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.), have voiced continued support. Miller denies the allegations and remains the GOP candidate on the ballot for Ohio's 7th Congressional District.
As of publication, Mediaite and other reporters have sought comment from Moms For America. The contested grade and competing political and personal claims mean the story remains under close public scrutiny.
