A man has been sentenced to six months in jail in France after allegedly threatening to kill a female primary school teacher who disciplined his son at a village school in Le Fauga, a community of about 2,600 people near Toulouse.
The case was heard in a fast-track procedure on Thursday, six days after the incident. The teacher has been placed under official protection and is currently on sick leave; several colleagues stayed away from school in the immediate aftermath.
What Happened
Local officials say the trouble began when the boy was disruptive in class and was sent to another classroom to calm down. According to Le Fauga Mayor Jean-Marie Puig and reports from BFMTV, a teacher in the other class told the child to "stop acting like a little bully." The father was later summoned to the school for a discussion. He is alleged to have waited outside and threatened to "cut off her head if she'd been a man." The parent subsequently apologized, but a judicial complaint was filed.

French Education Minister Edouard Geffray said: "No teacher should be afraid to do their job. Attacking one of them is attacking the entire institution." Under the July decree, education authorities can transfer a pupil to another school when staff face a significant risk and intervention has taken place. It is believed the boy and his younger sister may now be moved to a school outside Le Fauga.
