Summary: A 17-year-old from Acton, Massachusetts, has been charged with two counts of murder after his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his brother, Siddharth Aravind, 14, were found dead on Aug. 11. Investigators say the suspect allegedly used the internet and ChatGPT to research "fantasies" about killing family members and reportedly fled in his mother's car before being located the next day. The Chief Medical Examiner will determine official causes of death as authorities continue to investigate and prepare arraignments.

A 17-year-old has been charged with murder after his mother and 14-year-old brother were found dead in their Acton, Massachusetts home on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Acton Police Chief Douglas Sturniolo confirmed the charges at a news conference the following day.

Investigation and Charges

Authorities say Arjun Aravind faces two counts of murder in the deaths of his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his brother, Siddharth Aravind, 14. He is also charged with two counts of assault and battery on a household or family member, as well as vehicle-related offenses including use of a vehicle without authority and theft of a motor vehicle.

How the Case Unfolded

Acton police were called to the family home shortly before 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 11 after the victims' father reported he could not reach his wife or children. He said he last spoke with his wife around 7 a.m. that morning. A tutor scheduled to meet with the family was also unable to make contact when the father called police. Siddharth had been seen leaving a local recreation center around noon the same day.

Officers entering the residence located Siddharth's body on the first floor and Venkatesan's body in the basement. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office said investigators found evidence that Arjun had been exhibiting "concerning behavior," including internet searches and queries to ChatGPT for "theoretical ideas or fantasies regarding killing his family." Those findings are part of the ongoing investigation and are described as allegations at this stage.

"This is an unspeakable tragedy," D.A. Marian Ryan said, calling the deaths "an incredibly dark day" for the family and the local community.

Suspect’s Whereabouts and Next Steps

Investigators say Arjun allegedly left the home in his mother's 2014 green Honda Accord. Police issued an alert after initial attempts to locate him were unsuccessful; he was found the next morning on Andrew Avenue while officers were responding to an unrelated alarm call.

The Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official causes of death. Authorities have confirmed the victims sustained trauma and say they are investigating the type of weapon used. Arjun is expected to be arraigned on the murder and assault-related charges in Concord District Court; separate arraignment dates were set for remaining juvenile charges in Lowell Juvenile Court, which does not have jurisdiction over murder charges.

It was not immediately clear whether Arjun had retained legal counsel to speak on his behalf.
