An 18-year-old, Ameen Farraj, has been charged with murder after authorities say he fatally shot his 22-year-old brother, Abdulla Farraj, during a violent confrontation inside the family home in North Olmsted, Ohio, on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The incident reportedly began around 2:41 p.m. when Abdulla assaulted multiple family members, according to police and released 911 recordings.
What Happened
Police and family members say Abdulla attacked his mother, a younger sister and a cousin in the home. Family members and Ameen later told investigators that Ameen intervened and fired the shot that wounded Abdulla. Emergency responders found Abdulla still breathing; he was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
"My brother hit my mom and he got shot," the sister told dispatchers, clarifying that the shooter was her "younger brother" and that he "was protecting me and my mother and my cousin."
911 Calls and Aftermath
Ameen allegedly called 911 and told dispatchers Abdulla had been "trying to attack" their mother and said, "I had to shoot him." Dispatchers instructed Ameen to apply pressure to Abdulla’s abdominal wound until first responders arrived. Their mother was also transported to the hospital with injuries to the side of her face, authorities said.
