The IDF did not publicly report that Hezbollah launched an explosive drone near troops north of Beaufort Castle; Israeli media say there were no casualties. The army told reporters it withholds information when disclosure could harm forces, and reportedly confirmed the incident to Ynet. Separately, the IDF is probing an explosion in southern Lebanon that killed two reservists and wounded four, prompting strikes on Lebanese targets.
IDF Withheld Report Of Hezbollah Explosive Drone Near Beaufort Castle; Probe Underway After Separate Deadly Blast

Israeli media reported that Hezbollah launched an explosive drone close to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops north of the Beaufort Castle area on Friday, but the IDF did not publish the incident through its regular public channels.
According to multiple outlets, the unmanned device caused no damage and there were no casualties.
"The IDF releases information to the public based on factual considerations and situational assessments. The IDF spokesperson will not publish information that, based on a situation assessment, could harm our forces operating in combat zones."
The military issued that statement in response to media inquiries. While the IDF did not post the incident on its usual feeds, it reportedly confirmed the event to Ynet when asked. Ynet attributed the decision not to publicize the drone attack to IDF Northern Command chief Maj.-Gen. Rafi Milo.
Separate Explosion Kills Two Reservists
These reports emerged as the IDF opened a probe into a separate explosion in southern Lebanon that killed two reservists and wounded four others. The military said the blast occurred during a combat mission on Wednesday.
The two soldiers who were killed were identified as Maj. (res.) Harel Birenstock, 34, from Efrat, a company commander in Battalion 2855 of the 55th Reserve Paratroopers Brigade, and M.-Sgt. (res.) Tamir Vaknin, 33, from Eilat, a combat soldier in the same battalion. Rambam Medical Center reported that the four injured soldiers were in serious condition and later said one of the wounded had regained consciousness.
In response to the explosion, the IDF described the incident as a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire and struck weapons storage sites and command centers in southern Lebanon, while issuing evacuation warnings to the town of Mansouri. The Lebanese Health Ministry said an Israeli strike on the southern town of Tibnin killed one person and wounded 12 others; Tibnin lies about 25 kilometers from Mansouri.
Context And Operational Considerations
Military spokespersons often withhold or delay public reporting of incidents when releasing details could jeopardize ongoing operations or endanger forces. Officials have said such decisions are made based on situational assessments and operational security considerations.
As investigations continue into the southern Lebanon explosion, the IDF is balancing transparency with operational security — confirming facts to journalists on request while restricting wider public disclosure where commanders judge it could be harmful to troops in the field.
