Cluster-Munition Strike Kills Two in Izyum; Odessa Stadium Damaged Ahead of Cup Match

Two people were killed and four others wounded after a Russian rocket strike hit the city of Izyum in eastern Ukraine, Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov said on Telegram on Friday. Fire crews were working to extinguish a blaze that spread over roughly 400 square metres.
The Izyum Military Administration reported that Russian forces used multiple rocket launchers firing cluster munitions — weapons that pose a particular danger to civilians because they disperse many submunitions across a wide area.
Local Context
Izyum lies about 30 kilometres from the current front line. The city was under Russian control for several months after the 2022 invasion and was retaken by Ukrainian forces in September 2022.

In the neighbouring Sumy region, a drone strike on a market wounded 10 people, authorities said. Further south, a Russian strike damaged the Chornomorets football stadium in central Odessa — the home ground of the top-flight club of the same name. The attack tore a hole in the stadium roof and damaged sections of the stands one day before a scheduled cup match; regional officials reported one woman wounded.
Ukraine’s Air Force warned of incoming Russian missiles prior to the attacks, according to local authorities.
