Two people were killed and one injured when a drone struck an apartment block in Kerch on the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula, the region's governor said.

The intensified Ukrainian drone campaign has reportedly caused power outages and fuel shortages after strikes on energy infrastructure and tankers, contributing to higher living costs and a drop in tourism. Analysts say Kyiv currently lacks the military capacity to retake Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014.

At least two people were killed and one injured after a Ukrainian drone struck a block of flats in the city of Kerch on the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula, the region's governor said on Friday.

Sergei Aksyonov wrote on Telegram that the drone hit an apartment block in Kerch, causing civilian casualties.

Impact on Civilians and Infrastructure

The intensified campaign of drone strikes launched from Ukraine in recent months has increasingly put civilians on the front line, officials and local reports say. Attacks on energy infrastructure have contributed to prolonged power cuts and a shortage of fuel after tankers carrying supplies were reportedly struck.

Economic and Social Consequences

Residents on the peninsula report rising petrol prices and a higher cost of living. The hospitality sector — including hotels and restaurants that usually benefit from summer tourism — says it has seen a sharp drop in visitors, exacerbating local economic strain.

Claims and Assessments

Ukrainian drone units have told residents that Crimea would be rebuilt if it is liberated. However, international analysts and military experts cited by regional reporting argue that Kyiv currently lacks the military capability to retake the peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.

Details remain contested and largely reflect statements from local Russian-appointed authorities and other sources; independent verification of the strike's circumstances and casualties may take time.

Note: Coverage of events in and around Crimea remains fluid. Authorities on all sides have an interest in shaping how incidents are reported, so some claims may be disputed.
