The CPSC on Aug. 6 warned that Budget Baby Boost crib bumpers sold on TikTok Shop violate the Safe Sleep for Babies Act and can obstruct an infant's breathing. The padded bumpers were offered in blue, gray, pink and white for about $16 from March to July. The agency issued a notice of violation to a China-based seller that has not responded, and reports no injuries so far. Parents are urged to stop using and dispose of the bumpers and follow safe-sleep guidelines: a firm, flat surface with only a fitted sheet and infants placed on their backs.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Aug. 6 warned parents to stop using Budget Baby Boost crib bumpers sold on TikTok Shop after finding the product violates federal law and poses a suffocation risk to infants.

What the CPSC Found

The padded bumpers — available in blue, gray, pink and white and sold for about $16 from March through July — can obstruct an infant's breathing and may cause serious injury or death by suffocation. The CPSC says padded crib bumpers are prohibited under the Safe Sleep for Babies Act and issued a notice of violation to the China-based seller. The retailer has not responded to requests to recall the products or offer consumers a remedy.

Safety Guidance for Caregivers

Parents and caregivers should stop using these bumpers immediately and dispose of them. The CPSC reiterates established safe sleep guidelines: place infants on their backs to sleep on a firm, flat surface (crib, bassinet or play yard) with only a properly fitted sheet. Do not add blankets, pillows, padded bumpers or other items to the sleep area.

As of the advisory, the agency reports no injuries or incidents tied to these crib bumpers. For more information or to check for updates, caregivers should visit the CPSC website or contact the commission directly.

Bottom line: If you bought Budget Baby Boost crib bumpers on TikTok Shop, stop using them now and follow safe-sleep recommendations to reduce the risk of suffocation.
