A 15-year-old is in custody after a body was discovered in a roadway in East St. Louis, Illinois, on Monday night, the Illinois State Police said.
Investigators responded to a report of a body in the roadway at about 10 p.m. and were able to quickly identify a juvenile suspect, state police officials said. Agents located the juvenile at a nearby residence and took him into custody without incident.
Video circulating on social media — and footage reportedly captured by a nearby doorbell camera — appears to show the suspect wearing a clown costume near the location where the body was found, according to ABC News Chicago station WLS. State Police said they are collecting all relevant video evidence but have not authenticated the clips shared online.
Authorities emphasized there is currently no threat to the public. Anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the incident is asked to contact the Illinois State Police tip line at 618-806-7611.
