What Happened: Ilan Mans, a 76-year-old activist with the Yashar Party, was attacked while removing a banner calling for Yigal Amir's release at Hemed Bridge. Video shows protesters surrounding and assaulting him.

Current Status: Mans was hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem with bleeding in the brain and is scheduled for surgery. The Yashar Party has demanded that police arrest those responsible, and former IDF chief Gadi Eizenkot contacted Mans to offer support.

A 76-year-old Yashar Party activist, Ilan Mans, was violently attacked and hospitalized last week after attempting to remove a banner calling for the release of Yigal Amir from Hemed Bridge, Hebrew media reported.

Video footage of the incident shows Mans being confronted by a group of protesters who had hung the sign. The footage appears to show several people surrounding Mans and physically assaulting him as he lay on the ground.

Mans told Walla that police did not arrive at the scene after the attack. Following the assault, he was taken to the neurological department at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, where doctors diagnosed bleeding in the brain believed to have resulted from injuries sustained during the confrontation. He is scheduled to undergo surgery to treat the cerebral bleeding, with medical staff hoping the operation will improve his chances of recovery.

The Yashar Party issued a statement on X (Twitter) calling for the immediate arrest of those responsible and wishing Mans a speedy recovery. "Israel Police must act immediately to arrest the attackers and bring them to justice," the statement said. The party also said former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot spoke with Mans after the assault to offer personal support.

Context: Yigal Amir was convicted of assassinating Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on November 4, 1995, at the end of a peace rally in Tel Aviv. Rabin died of his wounds shortly afterward. Amir remains in prison after being sentenced to life plus an additional term, and periodic calls for his release have continued to spark heated controversy in Israel.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed arrests or a police timeline for the investigation. Local reporting and the available footage have fueled calls from Mans's supporters and the Yashar Party for a swift law enforcement response.
