A Virgin Atlantic aircraft technician, Georgie Buxton, 23, has died after sustaining a traumatic craniofacial brain injury following an incident at London Heathrow Airport.
Buxton was injured on the morning of 11 June and was later treated at St Mary's Hospital, where he died on 7 July. Senior coroner Lydia Brown opened an inquest at West London Coroners' Court but suspended proceedings while awaiting the outcome of any potential criminal charges.
A forensic post-mortem examination concluded that Mr Buxton suffered a traumatic brain injury described as craniofacial trauma. The coroner said Buxton "took a trauma to the face causing him complex and tragically fatal injuries." Although he underwent multiple surgeries, medical teams were unable to save him.
"There was an accident at Georgie's place of work. He took a trauma to the face causing him complex and tragically fatal injuries," Senior Coroner Lydia Brown said. "He did undergo various surgeries in hospital but these were not able to save life."
The Metropolitan Police launched a criminal investigation and are working with the Health and Safety Executive. The Met reported that officers were called at 08:49 BST on 11 June to reports of a man injured at Heathrow. The coroner said there were no details available yet about any potential charges.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Buxton had worked for Virgin Atlantic for two years. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time. The inquest remains suspended until investigations conclude and any decisions on criminal charges are made.
