The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (Pirc) is investigating contact made with Police Scotland before 44-year-old Vikki Soloman was found seriously injured and later died at a home in East Craigs, Edinburgh on 20 July 2026. Her ex-partner, Lee Greenan, was charged with her murder but was later found dead at HMP Edinburgh. Pirc will report its findings to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, and the Scottish Prison Service has said a fatal accident inquiry into Greenan’s death will be held.
Police Watchdog Probes Contact With Police Scotland Before Woman’s Death in Edinburgh

The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (Pirc) has launched an inquiry into contact made with Police Scotland in the days before 44-year-old Vikki Soloman was found seriously injured and later died at a home in East Craigs, Edinburgh on 20 July 2026.
Soloman was discovered with severe injuries at a property on Craigievar Square and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her ex-partner, 46-year-old Lee Greenan, was subsequently charged with her murder and made no plea when he appeared in court.
Pirc has confirmed it was notified that Police Scotland had been contacted prior to 20 July and is now reviewing the nature and handling of that contact. The watchdog said it will submit its findings to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service when the investigation is complete.
“Our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected following the tragic death of Vikki Soloman in Edinburgh on 20 July 2026,” said Raymond Brown, Pirc’s head of investigations. “We are investigating the police contact that was made prior to this date and will report our findings to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in due course.”
Police later reported that Greenan was found dead at HMP Edinburgh; there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death in custody. The Scottish Prison Service confirmed that a fatal accident inquiry will be held in due course.
In a statement issued via Police Scotland, Soloman’s family said they were “determined to pursue justice for Vikki” after she died “so young and in such tragic circumstances.” The family added that Greenan’s death was an additional blow in an already devastating situation.
The inquiry by Pirc will focus on any interactions, calls or reports made to Police Scotland before 20 July and whether those contacts were handled appropriately. The watchdog’s findings will help determine whether further action or recommendations are needed.
