Zelensky warned a major Russian airstrike is likely on Wednesday night, citing a report from Air Force chief Anatolii Kryvonozhko. Russia has launched repeated missile, cruise missile and drone barrages in recent weeks, with Kyiv among the targets, causing deaths and damage. Ukraine says it lacks sufficient interceptors to stop ballistic missiles and has renewed calls for Patriot systems and urgent Western assistance.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that a potentially major Russian airstrike is imminent and said there is a high likelihood it could occur on Wednesday night.

Warning Based On Military Report

Zelensky posted the alert on social media, saying his warning was based on a situation report from Ukrainian Air Force commander Anatolii Kryvonozhko. He described the threat as serious and urged citizens to follow official safety guidance.

Ongoing Attacks And Civilian Impact

Over recent weeks, Russia has repeatedly launched large salvos of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and attack drones across Ukraine. Kyiv and other population centres have been targeted, with strikes causing civilian deaths, injuries and damage to infrastructure.

Shortage Of Air-Defence Interceptors

Ukraine has repeatedly reported shortages of interceptor missiles needed to stop ballistic and cruise missiles. Zelensky used the warning to renew his public appeal to Western partners for further air-defence support.

Appeal To Western Allies

Specifically, Zelensky called on the United States and other nations equipped with modern Patriot air-defence systems to provide assistance urgently. He stressed that additional systems and interceptors would help protect civilians and critical infrastructure.

What To Watch: Authorities are expected to issue any required air-raid alerts if the threat materializes. Residents in affected areas should stay tuned to official channels for instructions and safety measures.
