A pedestrian has died after being struck by multiple vehicles on the A40 in Carmarthen, Dyfed-Powys Police said.

Officers were called on Tuesday evening amid concerns for a person seen on the A40 between the PC World roundabout and the Abergwili roundabout. When officers arrived at about 21:50 BST, they were told several vehicles had already collided with the pedestrian, including a marked police car that was on scene.

The force characterized the incident as a "six-vehicle" crash. No arrests have been made at this stage; Dyfed-Powys Police have referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Inquiries are under way to formally identify the pedestrian and to notify next of kin. Police warned that both carriageways of the A40 are likely to remain closed for an extended period while officers examine the scene and clear the road, and they asked motorists to avoid the area.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Dyfed-Powys Police. No further details have been released while the investigation continues.
