At least 11 people were killed and dozens more injured after Russian missile and glide-bomb strikes hit areas around Kyiv and the eastern city of Sloviansk on Friday, Ukrainian officials said.

Strikes Around Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said six people were killed and dozens wounded in daytime missile strikes around Kyiv. Authorities issued a missile alert shortly before noon as residents reported multiple explosions across the capital. According to the state news agency UNIAN, Russia launched at least 10 ballistic missiles at the city and also fired Zircon guided missiles. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said ambulances were dispatched to the hardest-hit neighborhoods.

Damage and Rescue Efforts

Zelensky posted images and updates showing devastated residential blocks and described ongoing rescue and recovery operations in the surrounding towns and suburbs. Officials said the wider region suffered heavy damage as emergency teams worked to locate survivors and care for the injured.

Sloviansk Hit by Glide Bombs

Glide bombs struck Sloviansk, near the frontline in Donetsk, killing at least five people and injuring nine, the regional governor Vadym Filashkin wrote on Telegram. Filashkin reported that ten residential buildings were damaged, along with a factory and the building that houses the Latvian honorary consul.

Separately, the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office said it is investigating an alleged execution of a captured Ukrainian soldier. The office said the soldier had been captured in Yalta (Donetsk region) and was shot after an interrogation on the orders of a superior. The incident is being investigated as a possible war crime.
