Kash Patel Summoned to White House, Abruptly Cancels Chicago Trip to See Girlfriend Amid Travel Scrutiny
FBI director Kash Patel

FBI Director Kash Patel was summoned to the White House on Friday and abruptly canceled a planned trip to Chicago to see country singer Alexis Wilkins perform, MS NOW reported. The cancellation — reportedly made while Patel was on the tarmac at Andrews — comes amid growing frustration among senior administration officials over Patel's conduct and scrutiny of his government-funded travel. Allegations include use of FBI aircraft, purchase of armored vehicles and requests for unusual trip perks; the FBI has said Patel complied with travel rules. White House spokesperson Steven Cheung defended Patel's leadership.

FBI Director Kash Patel was summoned to the White House on Friday and abruptly canceled a planned weekend trip to Chicago to watch his girlfriend perform, according to reporting by MS NOW. The cancellation — reportedly made while Patel was on the tarmac at Andrews Air Force Base — comes as tensions with senior White House officials have reportedly risen over his conduct and travel practices.

Reported itinerary and cancellation. MS NOW reported that Patel intended to travel on an FBI aircraft to Chicago, where country singer Alexis Wilkins — identified in reporting as his girlfriend — was scheduled to perform Saturday at the White City Smokeout music festival. The outlet said Patel called off the trip Friday morning after being summoned to the White House; one source told MS NOW the cancellation occurred while Patel was on the tarmac at Andrews.

Administration frustration and sources. The precise reason for the last-minute summons remains unclear, MS NOW added, but multiple sources told the outlet that top administration officials have grown frustrated with Patel amid a string of controversies. One source quoted by the outlet described an "apparent panic" and tied the summons to a social-media response Patel posted earlier that morning.

Public response and allegations. MS NOW highlighted Patel's reply to the outlet's coverage of his travel, in which he wrote on social media: "my jet ski is gold plated…dumbass." The post drew attention amid separate allegations about Patel's use of government resources and requests for special accommodations on official trips.

Congressional scrutiny. The report noted that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) questioned Patel in a May letter about his use of FBI aircraft and the purchase of armored BMWs for travel around Washington. Congressional Democrats have also raised concerns after receiving information alleging Patel requested perks on official trips, including a jet-ski excursion and a helicopter tour. The FBI has disputed those allegations and said Patel complied with federal travel rules.

Official visits and optics. MS NOW further reported that Patel's planned Chicago itinerary included a stop at the FBI's Chicago field office; some current and former law enforcement officials told the outlet they questioned whether that stop was added to justify the leisure portion of the trip.

"Patel was coming (to Chicago) today for a fake office visit for his girlfriend's country concert this weekend," one source told MS NOW. The source said Patel was summoned to the White House immediately after canceling the flight and described visible alarm among some aides.

Another source involved in efforts to repair Patel's standing with the White House said, "With everything going on in the war, how are you not outside the Oval Office ready to go into the Situation Room?"

Responses from the White House and FBI. White House spokesperson Steven Cheung did not directly confirm details of the meeting or the canceled trip but defended Patel's record, saying that under President Trump and Director Patel's leadership crime has fallen and that Patel "remains a critical player on the administration's law and order team." An FBI spokesperson declined to comment, according to the report.

Unclear outcome. MS NOW's story leaves the exact reasons for the sudden summons and cancellation unconfirmed. Multiple sources cited in the report point to mounting frustration over optics and travel practices, while official spokespeople have disputed wrongdoing and emphasized compliance with rules.
