At least nine people, including four children, were wounded in a heavy Russian airstrike on Kharkiv on Friday.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov said guided glide bombs damaged more than 40 private homes, according to a Telegram post.

Kharkiv, roughly 40 kilometres from the Russian border and home to about 1.4 million people before the war, has been repeatedly targeted and heavily damaged over more than four years of conflict.

At least nine people, including four children, were wounded in a heavy Russian airstrike on Kharkiv on Friday, officials said.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Telegram that guided glide bombs struck the city, damaging more than 40 private homes.

Ukraine's second-largest city — which had a pre-war population of about 1.4 million — lies roughly 40 kilometres from the Russian border. Kharkiv has been one of the most frequently targeted cities and has endured extensive destruction during more than four years of war.
