Romanian prosecutors have expanded their probe into Andrew and Tristan Tate, bringing fresh allegations of money laundering and human trafficking tied to the brothers’ business activities and online presence.
What Prosecutors Allege
Authorities say the investigation—originating with a high-profile DIICOT raid in December 2022—now includes claims that the Tates recruited and coerced a woman into sexual exploitation, then blackmailed her into producing explicit material and participating in compromising video chats on a specialist platform. Prosecutors also allege the brothers used two companies, listing themselves as administrators, to launder millions of euros into land, buildings, cars and an apartment block.
Expanded Charges and Online Conduct
By mid-2026 investigators say the indictment was broadened to include accusations that social media podcasts and online content between 2021 and 2024 were used to incite hatred and discrimination against women—allegations that prosecutors contend form part of a broader criminal pattern.
Legal Timeline and Asset Seizure
The legal saga began in December 2022, when Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) executed a raid that led to the brothers’ arrest alongside two Romanian women. In January 2023 DIICOT reportedly seized luxury assets worth millions, including exotic cars, high-end watches and real estate. In spring 2026 courts temporarily eased some strict preventive measures, allowing the brothers limited travel under judicial conditions while they await trial.
Defense and Free-Speech Claims
The Tate brothers deny all wrongdoing. Their lawyers have contested DIICOT’s characterizations of their online material and invoked free-speech protections in their defense. All allegations remain allegations until proven in court.
