Tracey Matthews, a teacher at Wonder Junior High in West Memphis, Arkansas, has been charged with aggravated assault after police say he choked a student following a verbal exchange.
The confrontation reportedly began when the student used the word "bruh," and allegedly escalated when the teacher physically grabbed and shoved the pupil.
The student reported the incident to the principal, who reviewed security footage and alerted law enforcement; the investigation is ongoing.

Police allege Matthews grabbed the student by his shirt and slammed him against a desk. When the student left the classroom, Matthews reportedly followed him into a hallway, shoved him into a wall and choked him. The student notified the principal after the encounter.
The principal reviewed security camera footage and contacted law enforcement, which led to the aggravated assault charge against Matthews. Authorities described the account above as alleged; the investigation and any legal proceedings are ongoing.
