A Suffolk County grand jury has returned an indictment adding 81 criminal counts against Dr. Derrick Todd, a Massachusetts physician already facing related charges in other jurisdictions. The new filing alleges misconduct that prosecutors say occurred while Todd practiced at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said the grand jury charged Todd with 21 counts of rape, 59 counts of indecent assault and battery, and one count of assault with intent to rape. Prosecutors say the alleged incidents occurred between 2017 and 2023 and involve 22 victims whose ages range from 17 to 56.

According to the indictment, many of the accusations center on examinations that prosecutors describe as unnecessary, including alleged inappropriate breast and pelvic exams performed on patients seeking routine care.
"This is an extraordinary set of indictments, not just for the sheer volume of charges and number of women assaulted, but for the fact that all these women were violated by ... a medical professional, the one person they entrusted to help them in their time of need," District Attorney Hayden said.
Hayden characterized the case as unprecedented for his office in terms of the alleged scale and the trauma described by survivors and said prosecutors will continue to support the victims as the legal process moves forward.
Todd is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.
Defense Response and Related Civil Cases
Defense attorney Ingrid Martin said the legal team has "received no information about these charges, so we have no comment at this time." Todd previously pleaded not guilty to 22 counts of rape and indecent assault and battery in Middlesex County; the Suffolk indictment is a separate matter and will be handled independently.
Separately, Todd is named in multiple ongoing medical malpractice lawsuits. In 2024, hundreds of former patients joined a class-action-style complaint alleging harm from his care.

Prosecutors said Todd will be arraigned on the new Suffolk County charges in Suffolk Superior Court at a later date. The DA expressed gratitude to the survivors who have come forward to assist investigators and emphasized the office's commitment to standing with victims through the process.
