Police said the drop was measured at about 62 feet. Neighbors told reporters that a bed of mulch beneath the window helped cushion the impact, a factor officials say likely reduced the severity of the injuries.
"The way he hit the ground, you don't survive that," a neighbor who identified himself as Antonio told CBS News. "That kid had guardian angels. Whether people are spiritual or not, that kid had something on his shoulder that said 'you're not today.'"
Sgt. Elise Miranda of the Worcester Police Department described the outcome as "an amazing, unique circumstance that definitely could have gone a different way," stressing how fortunate the child was to survive the fall.
