Prosecutors in Braunschweig say arrest warrants were issued for a 62-year-old mother, her 28-year-old daughter and the mother's 49-year-old husband after a 32-year-old live-in cleaner alleged weeks of brutal abuse. Reports cite forced self-extraction of teeth with a wrench, beatings, burns and other injuries, some allegedly filmed by the 49-year-old, who has a prior rape conviction. Authorities say the woman was free to leave but continued working in the home; the investigation is ongoing and officials describe the allegations as serious but unverified.
German Family Detained on Allegations of Brutal Abuse Against Live-In Cleaner

German prosecutors say arrest warrants have been issued for three members of a family accused of repeatedly abusing a 32-year-old woman who lived and worked in their home as a cleaner.
The Braunschweig senior public prosecutor, Christian Wolters, confirmed that the Clausthal-Zellerfeld district court approved warrants for a 62-year-old mother, her 28-year-old daughter and the mother's 49-year-old husband on grounds of "dangerous bodily harm." The family members were detained over the weekend in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, authorities said.
According to court filings and reporting by German outlets NDR and Bild, the alleged mistreatment began in late 2025 and continued until mid-March 2026, when the woman reported the abuse to a friend and police were notified. German privacy rules prevent the publication of full names; prosecutors released only the suspects' ages and relationships.
Allegations and Reported Injuries
Media reports and documents described to investigators allege extreme and repeated violence. The claims include that the victim was punished for being late to work, forced on multiple occasions to pull out her own teeth with a wrench, struck with a baseball bat, had her tongue nailed to a board and sustained burns to her abdomen with a Bunsen burner. Some incidents are reported to have been filmed by the 49-year-old suspect, who Wolters says has a prior conviction for rape and aggravated assault.
Prosecutor Wolters cautioned that the investigation is in its early stages:
"There is strong suspicion of a crime. But ultimately, we have to proceed with a bit more caution. At the moment, we assume that what she says is credible. But of course, we have to verify that."
Authorities say the woman was not held as a hostage and was reportedly free to leave the home, but she remained living there while carrying out cleaning and gardening duties. Neighbors interviewed by Bild described seeing the woman's physical deterioration and hearing loud confrontations at the house.
Ongoing Inquiry
Prosecutors and investigators are continuing to verify evidence, interview witnesses and review documents and recordings cited in media reports. Wolters said further details cannot yet be released because the probe is at an early stage, and investigators must confirm the allegations before proceeding further.
Note: All allegations described in this report are unproven. The suspects are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
