Texas Woman Arrested After Husband Found Shot in Parked Car; Initial Suicide Ruling Reversed

Breyanai Moore, 31, was arrested on March 4, 2026, in connection with the June 15, 2025, death of her husband, 33-year-old Lonnie Moore, authorities said. Lonnie was discovered inside a parked vehicle in the 23000 block of Northcrest Trail in New Caney at about 9 a.m., with the car's engine running and a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Initial scene suggested suicide, but investigators later found conflicting evidence. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook that while the scene "initially appeared to suggest a suicide," detectives completed a "thorough scene analysis" and uncovered evidence that contradicted a self-inflicted wound determination.

"The victim appeared to have sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head," the sheriff's office said. After a nine-month investigation, detectives identified Breyanai Moore as a suspect.

According to court documents obtained by media outlets, Moore allegedly told investigators she had texted Lonnie that morning to say she planned to file for divorce and said she had been at home overnight with the couple's 5-year-old daughter. Those statements are listed in the documents as Moore's account to police.

Investigators say other accounts contradicted that version: a friend reportedly told police that Moore had confided she shot Lonnie from the back seat of his vehicle after he picked her up. Moore's mother also told investigators her daughter had expressed hatred toward Lonnie and that after his death she cried frequently and lost weight, the documents say.

An arrest warrant was issued for Breyanai Moore. She was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and is being held without bond. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and additional details have not been released.
